About the Role
We are seeking a technically strong and commercially driven Product and Application Specialist to support our Genoscience portfolio, with a primary focus on flow cytometry solutions. This role combines scientific expertise with consultative selling to deliver high-impact customer support, training, and solution adoption across research, clinical, and diagnostic laboratories.
You will serve as the field technical authority, partnering closely with sales teams and customers to enable integrated life science workflows spanning flow cytometry, ELISA, PCR/qPCR, and related applications.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical & Application Support
- Serve as the primary field expert for flow cytometry instrumentation, reagents, antibodies, and software.
- Support experimental design, assay optimization, troubleshooting, and data interpretation for flow cytometry workflows.
- Provide support for instrument installation, verification, quality control (QC), and workflow validation.
- Deliver instrument demonstrations, evaluations, and advanced customer training sessions.
- Provide application-level support for ELISA, multiplex immunoassays, PCR/qPCR, and other relevant life science and diagnostic assays.
- Assist customers with assay selection, control strategy, panel design, and optimization across multiple platforms.
- Support integration of cellular, protein, and molecular data within customer workflows.
2. Sales & Pre-Sales Support
- Work closely with sales teams to support technical discussions, product positioning, demonstrations, and evaluations.
- Provide technical input for tenders, proposals, RFQs, and customer presentations.
- Support the achievement of regional revenue, profit, and market share targets through technical influence and solution positioning.
3. Territory & Business Development
- Apply detailed knowledge of Professional, Consultative, and Strategic Selling skills to maintain existing business, nurture additional business in existing accounts, and carry out cold calls to explore new opportunities.
- Demonstrate outstanding sales abilities through phone, email, and in-person interactions with clients, dedicating up to 80% of working hours in the field.
- Develop, write, and implement a strategic business plan for managing effectively your assigned territory, and review on a regular basis.
- Use data sources to analyze and capitalize on territory opportunities with the greatest return on investment
- Stay informed on competitor activities, market trends, and evolving customer needs.
- Support marketing initiatives and cross-territory programs as assigned by the Manager.
4. Training & Marketing Support
- Participate in company-led sales and product training programs in line with organizational philosophy, policies, and procedures.
- Deliver customer presentations promoting new products and solutions.
- Host and support product shows, workshops, and seminars at customer sites or locally, typically on a semi-annual basis.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (BSc.) in Biological Sciences (e.g., Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related Life Sciences).
Master’s degree (MSc.) is an added advantage. - At least 3-5 years of hands-on flow cytometry experience in research, clinical, or industrial laboratory environments.
- Experience with ELISA, PCR/qPCR, and other life science workflows is an added advantage.
- Deep knowledge of companion diagnostics, panel design, and gene therapy applications within flow cytometry.
- At least 4 years’ experience from a sales function in the healthcare industry preferred, with an extensive network across the East Africa territory.
- Ability to grow and manage customer databases using CRM systems (Salesforce.com).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with diverse customer profiles.
- Ability to work independently in a field-based role, with frequent travel (50-70%).
- Strong digital literacy in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and related applications.
